Meet the Intern: Mattea Hayes

February 11, 2026

Hi! My name is Mattea, and I am a sophomore at Florida State University double-majoring in theatre with a concentration in stage management and digital media production. I love working in the community and am passionate about education through play and exploration. I also love working behind the scenes, producing shows and content, and am excited to be joining the WFSU education team!

Outside of my academics, I am heavily involved with the School of Theatre Mainstage Productions and student-produced theatre. I most recently served as the Production Assistant in FSU’s production of Sweeney Todd and am currently stage managing some projects with White Mouse Productions. My time I have spent stage managing has taught me many valuable skills, like problem-solving and teamwork, and I’m excited to expand these skills at WFSU. I also studied abroad my entire freshman year in Valencia, Spain, which opened up my worldview and allowed me to explore and travel to places I thought I would never get the chance to go. Along with these endeavors, I have been a camp counselor at many different summer camps over the years, and am excited to put my love of working with kids and education into my work here at WFSU.

Growing up, I have always been a PBS KID. My sister and I would wake up every morning and pick out an episode of Wild Kratts, Dinosaur Train, or even Odd Squad to watch. Not only were the shows entertaining, they provided me with a wealth of knowledge and fun facts that I still remember to this day. Camp counseling and working with kids for many years has shown me how key those early years are to shaping how kids view the world and when they discover their interests and passions. This is why I am so passionate about the work that WFSU does with PBS KIDS to provide quality, entertaining and educational media to youth and their families, along with serving the community.

I have always loved contributing to my community through volunteering and service work  and meeting people that support the local community. I am ecstatic to get to work somewhere that prioritizes serving the community and building connections. I know during my time at WFSU I will get to expand my knowledge and connections within the Tallahassee community, along with meeting children and their families and getting to make a positive impact.. I am honored to get to spend my time in Tallahassee with WFSU!
