Hello All! My name is Michael Dreyer, and I’m overjoyed to join the absolutely amazing Education & Engagement Team here at WFSU Public Media. I am a graduate of Florida State University with a degree in Political Science. I am new to the education field, and just completed my first year professionally teaching music theory and guitar. I discovered that education was a passion for me later than most, in my final year of school. With that in mind, I am so appreciative of WFSU to have given me a chance to gain more invaluable experience in the field.

The importance of teaching can never be overstated, especially when it comes to elementary and Pre-K aged children. A good educator can pass on vast amounts of knowledge to generations of children! However, that’s only the tip of the iceberg. They also teach kids critical thinking, social skills, work ethic, and compassion for their peers! Need I say more? It’s an endlessly rewarding career despite the occasional frustrations.

My favorite subject is far and away definitely History/Civics. My plan in the long term is to return to school and acquire my masters in History. I hope to teach AP level courses in public high schools, or work as a ranger at any one of America’s amazing national parks. A close second is definitely Science thanks to the amazing PBS KIDS program “The Magic School Bus”.

There are so many amazing new programs on PBS KIDS that have been introduced since I stopped watching, but “The Ruff Ruffman Show” is definitely an early stand-out for me. I’ve had the amazing opportunity to get introduced to the show through WFSU’s incredible “Family & Community Learning Workshops.” Which serve as afterschool programs for schools in both Leon and the surrounding counties of North Florida. They help to connect parents and children with wonderful educational activities that they can enjoy during the program, along with continuing them at home. I got to work with so many tremendous kiddos and incredible parents. I can’t wait to meet even more smiling faces during our summer camp programs, and our 2018 WFSU Summer Challenge!
