Max Fondren and the externship program.

February 13, 2023

Hello! I’m Max Fondren, a senior at Chiles High School and a part of the incredible Externship program.

The Externship program allows seniors to explore career fields of interest through hands-on experiences with local professionals. That has manifested in diving into broadcasting and journalism through this fantastic opportunity at WFSU.

My plans for the future include continuing my education with a major in Political Science (International Relations and Comparative Politics). Either in Florida or several places out of state. Throughout my childhood, my mother always listened to NPR on car drives which helped to broaden my view of the world. Through my Mom’s job as an environmental consultant, my childhood seemed to revolve around the question of “How can we make our future better?” which brought me to decide on what I would major in.

At school, I am the co-President of Chiles Ambassadors, a club aimed at the betterment of welcoming our new first- and second-year students into the high school environment. This program ensures students can always find a friendly face on campus if they need it. I am also a part of my school’s Rock Climbing Club and Key Club. Some of my favorite activities are auto-rappelling down the climbing wall at Alchemy Climbing or community service opportunities. At home, I take care of my younger brother and cat. I am very excited about what this opportunity at WFSU will bring to me and the rest of the team!
