Hi, my name is Billye Frost and I am thrilled to be an intern for the WFSU Education Team this spring. I’m from Jacksonville, Florida, and will be graduating from Florida State University this semester as a double major in psychology and media communications studies. Through WFSU, I am hoping to gain professional work experience while simultaneously improving my knowledge in media production tactics.
Growing up, I was surrounded by educators not just in the classroom, but within my own family. Having both my grandmother and aunt as educators has shown me the importance that educational media has within our communities. My family has shown me that media can be utilized not only for entertainment, but as a way to access educational resources. On various occasions, I took note of how they incorporated PBS resources into their lesson plans that inspired and provoked critical thought in young children.
Off campus, I enjoy consuming various types of literature, film, and music. I love interacting with the media as it provides an outlet for my range of interests. After studying abroad in Florence, Italy, I have also grown fond of traveling. I had the privilege of going to five different countries where I was able to immerse myself in various cultures and learn from people of various backgrounds. Every opportunity that I can, I make an effort to explore new areas that expand my perspective and ideologies.
I could not be more grateful to have the opportunity to work with the WFSU team this semester. This semester, I am looking forward to connecting people to educational media while simultaneously having direct engagement with the people in my community. Being part of a team that uses a path to inspire continuous learning among today’s youth is incredibly motivating and I am so excited to embark on this path.
