What is Summer Challenge?
WFSU’s annual Summer Challenge provides educational fun for families across the Big Bend with a free activity book distributed through Leon County Public Libraries, select Leon County Schools and surrounding county libraries. Children earn points for completing activities that they can exchange for prizes, such as books and art supplies, at the end of the summer. This year, our Summer Challenge theme is “Neighborhood Explorers”

Kickoff: Kids’ Career Day
In collaboration with the Florida Center for Interactive Media and the Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce, WFSU launched TheLearningNeighborhood.org. This virtual community allows kids to learn about chefs, artists, bus drivers, librarians, animal care workers, and more.
With this resource growing, Kids’ Career Day will offer a hands-on companion and allow young students (PreK-3) to explore the world of work with real-life experts.
Be the first to get your Summer Challenge activity book by joining us on Saturday, May 17, from 9 am to 1 pm at WFSU.

Family Engagement Camps
Join WFSU for a series of special day programs at Leon County libraries. At each camp day, your family will watch a PBS KIDS episode, read a book, participate in hands-on activities, and take home some goodies! Content changes weekly. Please register as space for this free camp is limited. We hope to see you there!

What is The Learning Neighborhood?
The Learning Neighborhood is a partnership between community organizations and businesses focused on early learning needs of children and their families. With the help of the Florida Center for Interactive Media, WFSU launched TheLearningNeighborhood.org. This interactive website allows kids to explore different jobs that make up their community. Each stop in the neighborhood is tied to resources to help children understand more about jobs through PBS KIDS shows, games, hands-on activities, books, and additional resources!
Ready to Learn
Ready To Learn 2020-2025 is a project of CPB and PBS KIDS, working with early learning experts like WFSU to create experiences that expose young children to career and workforce options. The project aims to help them to build vital functional literacy, critical thinking, collaboration, and “world of work” skills and knowledge. This effort will also empower and equip parents, caregivers, and communities to support children’s learning and growth in these areas to put children on a path to lifetime success.
