What inspires you from WFSU Public Media? Here's this week's Voices That Inspire. Charlie Ward, headman's basketball coach at Fam U and co-founder of the Charlie and Tonge Award Family Foundation. Well, I've been blessed to have quite a few coaches throughout my playing and even professional career. You know, they all had something different in the sense whether they're the meaner, their preparation on the way they cared themselves, the way they talked to their players, all those things I've been fortunate to be able to be a part of. And so, Coach Balvin, his biggest thing was to be fair and honest. That was the words of wisdom that he gave me when I asked him about being a head coach. That was quite a few people that had inspired me. My parents were very inspirational in the way they raised us when it came down to the discipline that we needed. All the way they lived their lives, each and every day, the way they treated people, we had the things that we needed, not the things that we wanted all the time, but the things that we needed. And for me, I was grateful for that because it taught me that you have to do the best with what you have. That has just been my mentality, and my attitude, and my motto, the way I live my life, or even when, you know, I had access or a lot, I had to, you know, make sure that I stay grounded to those principles. And that's where I am today. So just grateful for them being a great role model for myself and all my siblings, and even the people that they touch throughout their journey. This is Charlie Ward, the headman's basketball coach at Fam You. No matter what the outcome is, we can always win. Which means we understand our why, we have great integrity, and we never give up. You're listening to voices that inspire.
