What inspires you from WFSU Public Media? Here's this week's Voices That Inspire. My name is Pamela Monroe. I am the Library Director for the Leroy Collins, Leon County Public Library. I have worked in school libraries. I've worked in academia and now I'm in public library. And the one thing that's connected all of those is community. Librarians, I think we work for the people. We are public servants. And if I can be a part of helping someone get a job, learn more, read a different type of book. If we can be any part of that, then I feel like we've done our job. And it's very hard sometimes for people to look outside of the library as being a place for books, but we're doing so much more for the community now. I think that's a big part of why I want to do this job and why I want to bring more people in is because we are community helpers. We're partners. One of the most important things that you can ever do for yourself is make sure that you're informed. And libraries provide everyone the opportunity to get information. And I think that we all owe it to ourselves to make sure that we are getting the information that is correct and the information that we need in order to continue with our nice, healthy lives. I cannot stress how important reading is. If you want to go anywhere in this world, you've got to read. So if I leave you with nothing else, learn to love reading. It will help you grow.
