What inspires you from WFSU Public Media? Here's this week's Voices That Inspire. I'm Dr. Larry Kubiak. I'm a licensed psychologist, Benital Hassey for 33 years now. What I have found in Rotary is it gives me more opportunities to give back and utilize the skills, the God-given skills that I have in ways to help others. And certainly I do that in psychology, but there's so many other avenues for giving back. And I've just been so gratified with the number of opportunities I've had through Rotary to do that. Their motto is service above self. And that's something that's always been very important to me. People haven't really learned how to listen, how to show that they care. I always like to say God gave us two years and one mouth because we're supposed to listen twice as much as we talk. Unfortunately most of us do just the opposite. And one of the greatest gifts you can ever gift to somebody is to truly listen and to let them know that you value them without judging them and so on. And whether you're a psychologist, whether you're a friend, whether you're a parent, that's an important skill that we all need everywhere. Given everything that's going on in the world, it's hard to have hope, but hope is what gets us through and realize that regardless of how things are right now, the sun will still come up tomorrow. I know during COVID we wondered, will things ever get better? And they did. You know, within a few years, things clearly got better. So have a hopeful perspective on the future. If you have hope, it's amazing how things can turn out differently. Be that person for someone and be that person for some organization. Whatever your passion is, there are opportunities to give back. So seek those out and it will make all the difference in the world for your life. Dr. Larry Kubiak, psychologist, be the person in the community that makes the difference. Find your passion and make it happen. You're listening to voices that inspire.
