What inspires you from WFSU Public Media? Here's this week's Voices That Inspire. My name is Viet Vu, and I am the founder and executive chef of Ronde Vu Hospitality Group. We specialize in catering events and consulting in the hospitality industry. My parents immigrated here from Vietnam and we were born and raised in Tallahassee. Growing up in Tallahassee, we had obviously a very Vietnamese upbringing, but we also were benefited by having an American culture that helped shape our lives. And we opened a lot of opportunities and doors to what we wanted to do down the road. Our favorite things that our mom used to make for us were these little steam buns, we call them bun bao. They're basically kind of like a meal on the go. I would say even like a Vietnamese hot pocket of sorts. It's like a nice pillowy steam bun but filled with different proteins. My mom actually used a ground pork, a Chinese sausage, egg, peas and carrots, so it had everything there. And it was just a really nice quick snack and a treat at the same time. I think the main inspiration was from our mother and our father coming here from a country with nothing. And their work ethic kind of like inspired us to be able to create and build what they couldn't. They basically did everything to get us to college. And from there, we did go to college for biology and chemistry and things like that. We ended up in this industry not because of all the money and the glamour, but it was mainly just basically the help our community and kind of expand all the tastes and cuisines and stuff that other large cities are very lucky to have. My name is Viet Vu and I bring the Viet and the Nams to Talaise. You're listening to voices that inspire.
