What inspires you from WFSU Public Media? Here's this week's Voices That Inspire. I'm Adrienne Kouts and I am the co-founder of One Fresh Pillow. We got the idea for our business in 2016 and we didn't start selling our pillows until probably 2017. So here we are in 2021 and business has finally actually started going somewhere. So it's been a little bit of a long road. After we saw the images that were going viral of National Guard members sleeping on the floor in the capital, we decided that we wanted to do something to help. We were able to get in contact with a member of the Washington DC National Guard and we donated 100 travel pillows. We donated 30 sleep masks and we also donated 30 of our standard size pillows. And it really was the least we could do considering the situation and we were happy to be able to do it. We didn't do it for optics. We did it because we felt so helpless and felt scared and wanted to do something. We can't defend the capital but we can help the people who are defending the capital. So it was kind of selfish for us to do it because it made us feel good. My love language is gift giving and so it made me feel good that we were able to do that. It made us feel like we were doing something. It made us feel like we were helping. That's why we did it was to feel involved and feel like we were contributing in some way. Our daughter is already so beautiful inside. She has the most beautiful spirit. She's such a loving and giving child. I love that she can see us be giving. So hopefully she sees that example of us being giving and helping others in need and continues that throughout her life. I'm Adrian Kouts and I am the co-founder of One Fresh Pillow. You're listening to Voices That Inspire.
Adrianne Kautz - We Can’t Defend the Capitol, but We Can Help the People Who Are

Adrianne Kautz is the co-founder of One Fresh Pillow. She started her business venture in 2017. After witnessing the horrific images of the now-infamous insurrection at our country’s Capitol, she felt compelled to act. She knew that she couldn’t personally defend the Capitol but thought she might be able to help the brave men and women who were. Her company decided to donate several pillows and sleep masks to the National Guard members who kept guard and slept at our nation’s Capital. She hopes that her spirit of giving will positively influence her daughter.
