What inspires you from WFSU Public Media? Here's this week's Voices That Inspire. My wife Kathy, mayor, city, Mexico Beach. I was five years old when we moved here. My upbringing played a vital role in my leadership. Well, the one thing that I knew for sure that was never any doubt was the path to choose after Michael. We were very vulnerable then. Very, very vulnerable. We could have sold out. I mean, sold out meaning changed our identities. It would have been very easy to do. There were people walking the streets with big checkbooks. And I think the strength that I had came to sort of stand my ground if you would and for the city definitely came from my upbringing. On my watch, we weren't gonna change who we were. Those vivid memories and the embedded feelings of this city were too strong in my mind too. At least if I was the mayor in that time after Michael, we were absolutely not gonna change course. Let's put it this way. I'd have had too many people to answer too. You know what I mean? I just don't know ways. So that was my guiding light. And where I drew my strength from was knowing that that fork in the road, I knew which way to go. My inspiration is that I believe strongly in our little town. I believe in the people that are here that we all have a common cause to keep what we have. And I'm very proud to be a part of that. Very proud. Am I out of Kathy? Mayor City. Mayor City, Mexico Beach. You're listening to voices that inspire.
