What inspires you from WFSU Public Media? Here's this week's Voices That Inspire. My name is Allison Grove. I'm a student at TCC and FSU and I'm a member of the TCC Forensics team. TCC Forensics is a team that people on it developed acting events, speech events and debate events and we go to tournaments and compete against other college students. We work individually and we work with coaches and other teammates on these specific events. A lot of it is developing the ability to speak confidently and to speak clearly and concisely and feel comfortable arguing in front of a room of people. One of the things that is major in our event is that when you craft speeches or you craft arguments, all of your information has to be well-sourced from credible institutions. So a lot of people come into Forensics not knowing what is a credible newspaper, what is a credible institution. I think it's a really essential skill for every adult to have, but especially college students who are growing up in this digital age where it's really hard to differentiate between what's fact and what's fiction. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. It was to join that team. It really helped me grow as a person and as a student and as a political science major. Forensics is ultimately like an active optimism. I'm telling you about a problem in the hopes that we can fix it together and all of my teammates do events that present messages because they know that their voice matters and it's going to go out to the world that's going to mean something. So I draw a lot of my inspiration, my optimism from that. I also think my coaching staff has a major impact on me and that they believe in me and my abilities to succeed. I was not very good at it at first, but I became very, very good over time because they pushed me and believed in me and thought I could do really well. My name is Allison Grove. I am a state champion in four events and a national champion and two and a very proud member of the TCC Forensics team. You're listening to voices that inspire.
