What inspires you from WFSU Public Media? Here's this week's Voices That Inspire. My name is Becky Ruta. I'm an artist, photographer and instructor. The creative spirit was found in me probably in high school when I took my first darkroom photography course. Everything about it from the 35 millimeter camera to developing the film, getting in the darkroom and manipulating my prints. So I knew then that was my path. Right now, my primary interest is to spend in portraiture. That's something I've been really digging into and finding I have a talent for. A lot of it just comes from my personal connections to people that I know. My most current projects, one is called Social Distance, that's on at the Museum of Fine Arts. I've partnered with Linda Hall. And I met her through a series of portraits that we are currently about to exhibit at La Mouin of women who are 65 and older. I've found myself inspired by those around me. My father was a great influence on my life. And right now, my daughter, my pandemic baby, it was born in July and my daughter Eden keeps me so inspired, especially with this current project. I want her as a young woman. I have a matriarch of a family that inspires me as well. And right now, I want her to see these women and know that she can do whatever she wants to do and should have the confidence to do so. So those are my big things right now that are keeping me going and inspiring me. My name is Becky Ruta. I'm a photographer here in Tallahassee. You're listening to voices that inspire.
