What inspires you from WFSU Public Media? Here's this week's Voices That Inspire. Name's Derek McGee. I am a husband of one, a father of two, I have a 12 year old namesake son, Derek II, and eight year old daughter named Tidia. And so I describe myself simply as a husband, a father, who's very fortunate to also be a passable local church and a lobbyist in the political process of Tallahassee. I grew up with impoverished means. My mom, dad worked hard, my mom really, really, I bet she could raise her boys. And we didn't always have the money, but always watched her love and her passion, her drive. And that's where my work ethic comes from. In addition to that, I always have people around me that really played a pivotal role in my career, my success, just me as a person. And so I always realized if you could give back, there's an old, as I said, each one teach one. And so I was really raised under that where always pay it forward, always being mindful and to be able to help somebody else out. And I think about my own personal life, I got to where I am by God's grace, of course, but also because there were people in my life who really invested in me. And so I feel indebted to do the same thing in return. While I'm honored to be a part of what I'm a part of, when it's all said and done, I wanna be a great husband and a great father. And being a great pastor is great, a lobbyist is great, a leader is great, those are all great things that I'm very humbled by. But I'm trying to catapult my children beyond where I was. And so I always think about that. And then lastly, as I'm a first generation on my paternal side of family, first generation college student, Tendi and graduate. And so I'm very, very proud. And that's a great badge of honor for me to think about that through the years, that were family members who were not able to go to college when I was able to do that. And so I'm always gonna be appreciative of that. So my name is Derek McGee, a husband and a father who was very honored and humble by the blessings he enjoys every day and tries daily to give back the same way it's been given. You're listening to voices that inspire.
