What inspires you from WFSU Public Media? Here's this week's Voices That Inspire. I'm Dr. Freddie Groomsmeck Lyndon, a retired member of the administration of Florida State University, and I'm a graduate of Florida, A&M and Florida State, and currently live in Tallahassee, Florida, and I'm a member of the Althecapa Alpha Surority Incorporated. I was named for my father Fred Lang, and he always had high expectations, and so did my mother, neither finished high school, and they always wanted me and my siblings to go to school and do our best. And so I was motivated by them. I wanted to make a difference. My mother often told me, she said, when I leave this world, I want somebody to be able to say, she made a difference. And she always sort of encouraged us to do something that's worthy, that we make a difference and improve society, but all possible. So much of what I did was a reflection of that, and I married early, I had two young children, and they also were my inspiration, because they sell me as a role model, and I wanted to be a good role model. I've been blessed to have a good family to support me, marvelous friends, and associates, and people who are willing to give me an opportunity. And I've always tried to meet that in a successful manner. I'm Dr. Freddie Grumes-Mek Lyndon, a retired member of the administration of Florida State University, and I'm a graduate of Florida, A&M, and Florida State, and currently live in Tallahassee, Florida, and I'm a member of the Alta-Kappa Alpha Sorority in cooperating.
