What inspires you from WFSU Public Media? Here's this week's voices that inspire. I'm Heidi Aatwe, I'm the chair of the Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce and President of Salter Mitchell Public Relations. Because so much has been given to me to get me to where I am today, so many people have just poured into my life, believed in me and just opened doors for me, and I want to reciprocate. So I give back my God-given talents to better people that come into my life and better my community. The two women in my life who I believe have just really, from a professional perspective, really spurred my career and that's Lisa Hall and April Salter. The two of them have opened so many doors for me. Lisa Hall gave me my very first job right out of college with the new baby and a new husband helping me with conist communications. She was the bureau chief. I was in the Capitol Press Corps, one of the youngest members chasing after Governor Lawton Childs. An April Salter was his communications director at that time. And then when Lisa moved into public relations, she said, Heidi, come join me. And so here I was working with Lisa Hall and April Salter and they were teaching me how to be a strategist and thought leader and how to create change for the good. And those two women, I owe so much to them and there are so many other women who have really inspired me, but you know, I say this all the time, those two. I always tell young people, be a sponge. You don't have to go in and prove yourself. Go in and learn and do. This is Heidi Outway. I'm the chair of the Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce and President of Salter Mitchell Public Relations. Voices that inspire is sponsored by Leadership Tallahassee, a program of the Tallahassee Chamber celebrating 35 years of cultivating community leadership.
