What inspires you from WFSU public media? Here's this week's Voices That Inspire. My name is Isabel Kanella and I'm a junior at Child Ties School this year. I started this year on digital academy. It was so much different than actually the ending to my software, which is also on digital academy. I was on Zoom versus just like Google Classroom. So I was like, face to face with my teachers, but I wasn't face to face with my classmates. That's like a really weird experience for me. I just had a bunch of black screens staring back at me constantly. So like, I did feel a little isolated in that way. My school was really lucky. We had the option to choose if we wanted to be in person or if we wanted to be on digital academy. So second quarter actually, I switched back into my in class schedule. And it was actually really great. I was 15 when the pandemic started and I felt very young, like still a sophomore. Now I'm 17 going into senior year. I definitely felt like I missed out on some stuff but starting up school again and everything's starting to go back a little bit to normally. You find that new pace. And I really got close to a good solid group of friends. And it's just like it teaches you who's there for you and who's not. I would say almost all my friends are vaccinated. It's important to us in order to have a normal senior year for us to be vaccinated so we can do those things together. And they make it so accessible for us. We've had people come to school where you can just go and get your vaccinations right on child's campus, which is super nice. A lot of people don't like high school in there in the moment but I have loved my experience at child's. And I would say a main reason for that is our teachers. And I just feel like our teachers really care about us at child's and they really make their classes fun and interesting. They ask for feedback and they do all the steps necessary that they're not just teaching to us, they're teaching specifically for us. My name is Isabel Canella and I'm excited to be the class of 2020 next year. You're listening to voices that inspire.
Isabel Canella - A Lot Of People Don’t Like High School, But I Loved My Experience

Isabel Canella is on the cusp of starting her senior year at Lawton Chiles High School. She started this year in Digital Academy, but she felt isolated. So, she switched to in-person school during the second quarter. She relished the ability to connect and interact with her friends and teachers.
