What inspires you from WFSU Public Media? Here's this week's Voices That Inspire. I'm Jackie Wilson, and I have been in the construction industry here in Tallahassee for about 50 years. I'm currently working with Metronet. We've been laying lines throughout Tallahassee for about a year and a half, running conduit throughout the community, and now starting to get people connected to fiber. There's a lot of things that are construction, and women have definitely made their break into various fields. Women have been more and more accepted in the industry, and their opinions have been more accepted and sought after. There's just lots of opportunities for women in our industry. I've actually been in the National Association of Women in Construction since 1978, observed as president of our local chapter about six or seven times, I think, different years. And I've gotten a lot out of that, made a lot of friends through that. So the contacts and the networking part of it have been super important to me. There's a lot of self gratification, I guess, and completing projects and being part of projects and seeing them come together. I just encourage young women or older women who even want to change careers to consider the construction opportunities. And this industry has a lot to offer. It just takes a lot of paying attention to what you're doing, and learning from mistakes, learning as you go sometimes, and just trying to take each day in a positive direction and keep going. Don't give up. I'm Jackie Wilson. I have 50 years of experience in the construction industry, currently working for MetroNet fiber, and getting Tallahassee ready to go fiber throughout the community. You're listening to Voices That Inspire.
