What inspires you? From WFSU Public Media, here's this week's voices that inspire. I'm Jim Musteevinson, formerly with the Department of Environmental Protection in the Florida Park Service, but continue to volunteer leading tours of the Wakala Springs Basin and active with various environmental groups. The first spring that I focused attention on was Wakala Springs, because it's right here in our backyard. The glass bottom boat couldn't run as often as they used to, so I developed a stakeholder group of agencies and citizens to study the matter and determine how we could clean up the spring. And that evolved over time, and we've learned a huge amount about Wakala Springs, but still need to know more. Then that led to carrying about Ishtuckney, which is to me the finest of all springs, even in the world. I was invited to take Governor Bush and Secretary Struse of the EP on a canoe trip on the Ishtuckney. Before we were off the river, they had decided that we needed the Florida Springs Task Force to determine how to protect our springs. Gave me the job of putting the task force together and writing a report. And that set us on our way for springs protection, and it's grown ever since. We've got the finest springs in the world if we can just hang on to them. Traveling to the state parks and seeing the improvements, if they do lightning season burning, it's just a gorgeous landscape. Wire grass and wild flowers and open vistas and seeing those kinds of restoration activities keeps me inspired. I'm Jim Mustieveinson, formerly with the Department of Environmental Protection in the Florida Park Service, and I now volunteer to take care of Florida Springs. You're listening to Voices That Inspire.
