What inspires you from WFSU Public Media? Here's this week's Voices That Inspire. My name is Jaxanne Albala-Losoler and I am a student at Florida State University studying Political Science and Criminology. I came through the care program, which is the Center for Academic Retention and Enhancement for First Generation College students. Definitely a dream of to say the least because like I can truthfully say, without this program, I would not be able to study at Florida State. My mom, she's very proud of, I'm the only one ever children to ever go to college and I'm the first one out of any of my father's children to ever go to college. So it's sort of a big deal for them. I do want to go to law school. I would like to work in DC, but I would love to like work internationally as well and just sort of like help reform like not only politics, but the criminal justice and as a whole and work for like other nonprofits. I do feel hopeful, but with a caveat of wow, there's so much to be done, but I also feel empowered like to be able to know that I can make change happen and be a part of that change that I want to see in the world and just sort of like leave this world better than what I found for my kids and for future generations as well. Throughout my life, I found I've realized that nobody is going to really push you harder than you would yourself. So I've really pushed myself throughout my whole life to just like be the best I can be and I'm sure that's what's got me this far as it's got me into the care program into the Southern Scotch Foundation. I've made deans lists all my semesters in college and I made presidents list last semester. And I'm also like on a health journey right now where I've been working out and I've been eating well and I've lost around 50 pounds give or take and I'm still going. So I would just say be the person that you want to be cheering for you, be your own advocate. I am Joc San Alba de Houssouler and I'm a student at Florida State University studying political science and criminology. You're listening to voices that inspire.
