What inspires you from WFSU Public Media? Here's this week's Voices That Inspire. My name is Kenyatta Kovin Sr. I am the fatherhood coordinator of Capital Area Healthy Store here in Tallahassee and also over World Color County. But first thing when I meet a dad, I try to be very transparent, be straight up, a lot of time I ask question, how is their dad? And pretty much seven to 80% of the men that come into the program, someone have a lot of bad experience. Meet some dads, they divorce early. I'm a child and my mom are dead divorced early. Just letting them know that hey, you know how important it is and they say, yeah, it did affect me. I said, so now think about your child, how it's going to affect them if you're not in. So the light bulb come on a little brighter and quicker. When you haven't really got the skill set from childhood to manhood and then fatherhood, it's a big problem. You know, I have to play both parts. I have to try to build them up because I see they lacking some skills. It just as a man. It's hard of trying to be a father because there's a whole nother area. So yeah, so I'm a father of three. I'm a granddad of four. My wife and my wife have been married going on 27 years. I always made that point when I'm ahead my children that I will be there when they wake up in the morning when they go to sleep because like I say, my dad left us early. Still not beautiful from that. It just made me to know what not to do. You feel like a hero because what they're about children, they really don't care how much money you make. They really don't care how much, you know, status, what everybody else cares. They're just knowing that hey, I could depend on my dad. It's like now my sons are older. I give them the advice now. I'm now a mentor to them. Just being a dad, it just make it feel good to see the areas that you feel like that your children are now winning in. My name is Kenyatta Covin, senior fatherhood coordinator of Capital Area, healthy start over Leon County and Wal-Color County. And also I'm a dad and father's old essential. You're listening to voices that inspire.
