What inspires you from WFSU Public Media? Here's this week's Voices That Inspire. Hello everybody, I'm LaShine Gordon and I am the Director of Membership and Engagement at United Partners for Human Services. You can't just allow me to utilize all of my strengths, which is connecting individuals to services, connecting them to other people. And then on top of that, really, really being able to use my leadership, perspective, and direct service experience to be able to help shape the landscape of the work we're doing for the sector. So it's one thing when you kind of bit around the work, it's another thing when you've done the work. You have this unique perspective of what the clients and the community needs really are. The advice I give is take the limits off, you know, take the limits off. In the earlier years, I would just kind of watch people and be like, oh, you know, no, it won't be me. Oh, you know, they must have this unique skill and ability or they know this person. And then, you know, when I began to kind of see myself in those roles or just see myself in certain meetings, groups, and circles, then things just really started to change my perspective. And so I always encourage, you know, mentees and young women and just young people I meet would take the limits off, right? There are no limits. You can do whatever it is that you want to do. Your voice is just as powerful as the voice of the person sitting next to you. And that gets into people's spirits and they're soul, right? Because sometimes you just really need somebody to tell you that you can't because there's so much negative self-talk that you feel like you can't. So take the limits off is just super important. I am LaShan Gordon, the director of membership and engagement at United Partners for Human Services. You're listening to voices that inspire.
