What inspires you from WFSU Public Media? Here's this week's Voices That Inspire. I am Lauren Pasquillone and I use my voice and my writing to empower others to live their best lives. I grew up in Blentstown, which is in Kalhoun County, part of the area that was hit hardest by Hurricane Michael. And if you've ever been in a small town or lived in a small town, you'll know that while your population may be dwarfed by other larger cities in the area, in many ways your community is larger. In the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Michael, the Kalhoun County area, many of the communities were completely cut off from the world. And so the community, they all came together in those first hours after the storm to begin the process of getting out from under the devastation and rebuilding and helping their neighbors. It's important to not let the storm pass and us forget about it because other things have popped up. Life happens and we all move on. We can honor people who have been impacted by a disaster, by using their plight and their strength in the face of that disaster, to power us forward, to learn from their examples of leadership and strength. But also, we need to lift them up and support them and continue to ask how can I help and do what we are able to do. It's important for us to, when we see something happen, do at least one thing, one small thing. And if we all did that in this community, for our neighbors, for ourselves, for our own community, imagine what a huge impact we would make. I'm Lauren Pasquillone and I'm using my life to empower others to live their best life. You're listening to voices that inspire.
Lauren Pasqualone - If we can do at least one small thing...

Lauren grew up in Blountstown, a small town in Calhoun County. The area was hit hard by Hurricane Michael. Lauren tells about how the community came together to heal after the storm. She feels we can be powered forward by those affected by disaster. We can use their examples of leadership and strength to learn. We must continue to ask how we can help. If we can do at least one small thing, and our actions together could make a huge impact.
