What inspires you from WFSU Public Media? Here's this week's Voices That Inspire. I'm Louise Devine, co-owner of Turkey Hill Farm with my husband, Herman Holley. When you are growing food for people and we're at the market and they come and they say, oh, I like to buy this lettuce and they take that lettuce home and they serve it to their loved ones. To me, the most intimate relationship you can have, we're feeding people. And for me, it's so important that the food that they take into their families, that love can come through that food. We really love what we do. I am a believer that love that we put into the soil and the cultivation and the harvesting and the washing and all of the things that we do. The love that we put into that comes to you when you eat and you're going to feel better. People come to us at the market and say, I just love your lettuce. I'm so grateful that we can have it. I'm like, yeah, that's right. That's what we like to send out is that love and gratitude. Because what else is there? With our son working with us now, we hope that we have a generational continuity with the farm and our grandchildren really enjoy it. And that's great to be able to share the farm and all the interesting wonderful things at the farm with the children. My advice to somebody who wanted to go into farming is to get out and meet some farmers. Work on the farm, have authentic experience in that and hurry up.
