What inspires you from WFSU Public Media? Here's this week's Voices That Inspire. I am Nikki Kelly and I am the Executive Director for Girls Inc. of Bay County and it is an honor and a privilege to serve our community in this role. We serve girls ages six through 18, as long as they are enrolled in K through 12, that doesn't necessarily need to be a brick and mortar school. We actually work with a lot of girls who are homeschooled, so we can work with any of our school age population. I think what keeps me inspired on a daily basis, it's our girls. And beyond that, it's our employees. It's the young women who work with our girls to make sure that they are going to be our future leaders. They give me such incredible hope. I look around the world right now and the challenges and the frustrations and we have the various protests and so many different issues and things that are going on. It is this young generation who I feel is finally going to be able to make some significant changes that will impact all of us in a positive way. Their eyes are wide open, their brains are wide open, and they're engaged and they want to make a difference, whether they're six years old or whether they're 20 years old, they're moving in the right direction. And that every single day keeps me inspired and fills me with hope. With the general election coming up, one of the things we focus on with our girls is our Shevote's program, which doesn't just teach them about voting and why that's important. It teaches them about the importance of elected office and how can they see themselves in all kinds of elected office from student government to the White House. Our girls have got to see it at the table and they need to claim their seat. I'm Nikki Kelly and I'm the executive director for Girls Inc. of Bay County. You're listening to voices that inspire.
Niki Kelly - Their Eyes Are Wide Open

Niki Kelly is Executive Director for Girls Inc. of Bay County. She stays inspired by the girls her organization works with as well as the young women who work within the organization. For her, it's a real source of hope for our collective future. They focus on "She Votes," a program where they teach about the importance of voting and the role of women in elected office.
