What inspires you from WFSU Public Media? Here's this week's Voices That Inspire. My name is Rick Grant. I'm a retired Navy Admiral. I've been retired since 97. I went to the Naval Academy. I graduated 1966 and went into pilot training after that and became a Navy fighter pilot. Did that for quite a few years and then went to law school here at FSU. I went into the JAG Corps from here and then served as a Navy lawyer for about 22 years. And along the route I was fortunate to be able to command the Naval Criminal Abesco Service to be a creator of the Navy motorcycle racing team and do other kinds of things that were really interesting and exciting to me during that career. And I guess I was 31 years plus four years of the Naval Academy. We have to get involved in the area we can affect. And I think we owe it to talent-hassing to ourselves to do that. One of the things I always felt embarrassed by when I would be traveling around in the Navy and I moved a lot. You were never in one place long enough to really make an impact. I mean you were really busy making impact on the military and making an impact on national security but I didn't have it time to get involved with the city or with the county or the state. Now I do. It's an obligation I think all of us have and we all ought to do what we can do. And we all have different abilities and so we have to say okay what is something we don't like and then how do we deal with it? What can we contribute and how do we volunteer or how do we become part of an organization that can make a difference? RecRant, retired admiral. This is my third retirement, one for the Navy, one for the motorcycle business and one from municipal code corporation. Retirement to me means I don't have to be there at 615 in the morning anymore. So I've got time to do other things and so I've been trying to figure out what's important to me, what's important to tell a Hasse what's important to Northwest Florida and those are the things I'm working on and I'm inspired every day by the people I work with. You're listening to voices that inspire.
Rick Grant - What can we contribute?

Retired Navy Admiral Rick Grant held many positions during his 35-year Naval career. From graduation to retirement, he moved, changed jobs, and found it interesting and exciting. He believes we owe it to our communities to get involved. Now that he is retired, he has time to do other things and he wants to help with the initiatives most important to our local area.
