What inspires you from WFSU Public Media? Here's this week's Voices That Inspire. My name is Sandy Beck and I'm the Education Director with the St. Francis Wildlife Association, where the oldest and largest wildlife rehabilitation facility here in North Florida. It may sound like a fourth floor apartment in New York City would be a strange place for a kid to learn to love animals, but our apartment faced the Bronx Zoo. And I was at the zoo every day and by first grade, I was the designated school naturalist. I love teaching children and adults about the wild animals that share our community. And it's not all that hard to learn how to coexist. What we learned understands and love, ribbon won't protect. And that's why I love writing poetry with children. And I still do my wild poetry, bring the animals in the classroom and children who don't usually write, write the most amazing combs and illustrate them with beautiful pictures. It's very gratifying. So it's really important to save wild lands for wildlife and not just think about building the house, but how important it is to save that live oak tree because there are so many animals that are depending on that one tree. My name is Sandy Beck and I'm the Education Director with St. Francis Wildlife, our local wildlife rehabilitation center. And I'm also a wild woman. You're listening to voices that inspire.
