What inspires you from WFSU Public Media? Here's this week's Voices That Inspire. My name is Scott Harrell, and I am the proud owner of Home Instead. Proud graduate of Leon High School in 1996, growing up being involved in sports and being recruited to play baseball, college ball, and my dream was to be a pro baseball player, but obviously the good Lord had other plans for me. And I'll never forget, I went out to Caregiv. I went to a gentleman's home in Caregave and gave the wife and the daughter a little bit of respite. And it changed my life. That had a profound effect on me knowing how I could help. And that's always stuck with me. So that's why I wake up every day, put my shoes on and go to work to try to help anyone and everyone that we can. Something that's really important to me, obviously, is to be a good father, number one, be a good husband. And I think that then trickles down into, wanting to help the community and showing my kids that giving back, volunteering is intricately important to make our community a better place. So that's the reason why I volunteer my time at TCC Foundation, Big Ben Hospice, Capital City Youth Services CCIS, the Telehacie Senior Center, all those things. It kind of gets me out of my box and helps me learn. And sometimes we kind of get in our bubble and it's nice to get out of that and to learn other areas of our community and what those needs are. And then what I try to do without us sending our kids is find out where's the biggest thing at the time and then maybe there's something that we can do to help them. So that's important to give back as you can. And again, it's not just monetarily, it's also voluntarily being present and showing that vision, passion, purpose, or whatever that organization is. I just want to have some kind of impact on someone every single day, whether it's helping someone with directions of their loss or at publics, helping them get something off the shelf, little things, it's not always the big things, but that's my why and that's why myself and my family really love helping other people. Scott Harrell here, owner of Homan's Stead, family owned and operated since 1998. You're listening to voices that inspire.
