What inspires you from WFSU Public Media? Here's this week's Voices That Inspire. My name is Todd Moran. I'm a medical oncologist at the Tallahassem Memorial Cancer Center. And I've been here for just over a year. When I was 17, I joined the Navy, went to boot camp. I enlisted and became a reactor operator. And I served on aircraft carrier for five years. And then decided that I didn't want to be a reactor operator for the rest of my life. The Navy put me through school, residency training, fellowship training. And it was one of the best decisions of my life. I was in the Navy for just 130 years. My final command in the Navy, and that was to be the Senior Medical Officer and Director of Medical Services on the USNS Comfort, which is one of two sister ships, the world's largest hospital ships. I was actually getting ready to retire and got called back to Military Sea left command. We were called to action relatively quickly and had five day sale orders to get up to New York. We mobilized over a thousand personnel in five days and packed the ship full of all necessary materials and had a hundred bed intensive care unit sitting at a pier within seven days of sale orders. And because every military installation was dealing with COVID and what the COVID policies were going to bring, they couldn't afford to lose their infectious disease officers. So we boarded our infectious disease officer on the day before we set sale. The men and women who serve in uniform, selflessly put themselves in harm's way every day that they're in uniform. They're willing to do that and they go above and beyond to do that. My patients inspire me every day, the hardships that they face on a daily basis. It's inspiring for me to see them come here and fight every day for every day of their life that they can get. And that's what inspires me to come back here. That's what inspires me to do what I do. I'm Todd Moore, some medical oncologist at Tally Aspenmore Health Cancer Center. You're listening to voices that inspire.
